I’m pleased to announce that the Harris Branch HOA has given their approval to proceed with volunteer activities along the Harris Branch creekbed, starting with a “Ready Set Plant” event, sponsored by TreeFolks, at the trail behind Kilmartin Ln!
Starting Monday morning (10/31/22), a small crew from the Austin Civilian Conservation Corps will be arriving to trim up the mesquite grove between the trail and Harris Branch creek. They will be clearing out the lower, thorny branches to make it easier for tree-planting volunteers to plant trees and promote species biodiversity. Accumulated brush will be chipped and spread as mulch to enhance soil health.
(Pruning the grove is necessary for volunteers to access the planting site without having to wade through dense mesquite brush – so once we get the grove ready, we can conduct the actual planting of new species!)
Pending final confirmation by TreeFolks, we anticipate being ready to conduct the volunteer event in late February 2023.
While TreeFolks is bringing plenty of their own crew for the “Ready Set Plant” event, neighborhood volunteers are VERY WELCOME, and I hope to bring a decently sized team together! I will be posting more information around details and specifics as it’s finalized, but in the meantime, please feel free to sign up for emails on the “Volunteer” tab. This will allow you to receive notifications and signup details for this, and future events as well.
Thank you!
